Worrying is like a rocking chair, it gives you something to do but doesn’t get you anywhere.

This quote is attributed to many persons so I think it might be anonymous. My stepmom and I were talking and she said this to me regarding worrying. So often we worry about things that would never happen and what we can’t control. It’s as I said last week if we can’t control things then leave it alone. Stop stressing.

I can see the quote in my mind’s eye. I’m sitting in the rocking chair and no matter how I rock I can’t move. I go nowhere. I’m stationary and that’s how worrying can be seen. No matter how much we worry about things especially those that have not happened it just makes you stressed but achieves nothing. I remember asking in a blog years ago if you have ever worried about a meeting or appointment and when you go there nothing remotely close to what you were worried about happened. Everything happens in the mind and it’s just not real. I wonder when we will get to the stage where we just accept things that they are and not worry about what might happen. It’s great to plan but that’s so different from worrying. We can put things in place for what might happen. That’s being proactive which is totally different from stressing yourself.

I’m learning how to continue to plan for everything but separate it from worrying about what might happen. It takes a while to get to the stage where we just let things go and just ride with the flow. It doesn’t mean just letting go and not keep your hands on the rudder. You still get and need to be involved but there is no need to sit worrying about what might happen. It’s like talking to someone that worries about everything and saying to them with a shrug that what they think might happen in all probability never will. Have you ever talked to someone that always have a problem for all your solutions? Let me give you an example, you say this is where we are going for them to say but suppose we go there and something major happen. Again you shrug then we go around it and head somewhere else. They will then have a problem for the solution. If you listen to them and take them seriously then you end up worrying about things that might never happen. I have to deal with persons like this all the time and that’s why I have to live in perpetual optimism. That’s how I keep myself grounded.

It’s like listening to persons forever predicting the end of the world or now that AI will take all out jobs away. Sigh. What about it just changing the way we work? If I listen to the naysayers I won’t have a job very soon. If I sit worrying like them then I’ll be really old now with a full head of grey hair. 🤷🏽‍♀️

We can’t make worrying a habit. As you know habits can take over our lives and very often they do. We have to think in a positive manner or we get to a point where we become paralyzed with fear. What I have realized is in order to keep myself up and willing to always be in that positive space I must leave the naysayers and energy vampires outside of my circle of control. Simply keep them at arms length. Pull positivity to you and you will see the difference. You feel better and less stressed. Leave the worrying behind.
