Have you ever noticed how some things seem determined not to work? You try one way, then another. You pray. You plan. You work harder. You wait. Nothing changes. It can feel as though you’re standing in exactly the same place, wondering if anything will ever be different.
And then, without warning, everything shifts.
A conversation you’ve been waiting to have finally happens. A door that has remained firmly closed quietly opens. A problem that has weighed heavily on your mind somehow untangles itself. Suddenly, the pieces fit together as though they had been waiting for that exact moment. It’s a bit like completing a jigsaw puzzle. You spend ages staring at scattered pieces, convinced one or two must be missing. Then you find that final piece, place it where it belongs, and the picture suddenly makes perfect sense. I find myself wondering about this often. Is this simply how life works for everyone? Or is it something more? Is it things happening in God’s time?
I see it in my own life more often than I can count. There have been moments when I have done everything I knew to do, only to feel as though I was making no progress at all. Then, almost out of nowhere… bam! Everything begins to fall into place. The things that weren’t working somehow sort themselves out. The timing always makes me pause. Was God gently holding me back because it wasn’t the right season? Or was I simply seeing the results of months, or even years, of quiet effort that I couldn’t appreciate while I was in the middle of it? Maybe it’s both. Perhaps our work prepares us for the blessing, while God’s timing determines when we’re ready to receive it.
My stepmom has always said, “It happens in God’s time.” Simple words. Yet the older I get, the more I find myself thinking about them. There are things I wanted years ago that, if I’d received them then, I probably wouldn’t have appreciated or even managed well. Looking back, I can now see that what once felt like delay may actually have been preparation.
Of course, it’s much easier to recognize that in hindsight than while we’re living through the waiting. Waiting can test our patience. It can test our faith. Sometimes it even tests our hope. But every now and then life reminds us that not everything unfolds according to our timetable. Some things simply need time.
Perhaps that’s why seasons exist, not only in nature, but in our lives. There is a season for learning, a season for growing, a season for letting go, and a season when everything finally comes together. Maybe that’s why those moments feel so satisfying. Not because they happened quickly. But because they happened when they were meant to.
What do you think? Have you experienced times when nothing seemed to be happening, only for everything to suddenly fall into place? Do you believe it was your perseverance finally paying off, or do you see God’s hand quietly working behind the scenes all along? Or perhaps, like me, you wonder if the two are more connected than we sometimes realize.
I’d genuinely love to hear your thoughts.
See you soon! Join me again next Wednesday at 8:00 p.m. (Bogotá time) for another reflection on life, faith, growth and the lessons we learn along the way. Until then, take care of yourself, keep believing that every season has its purpose. If this week’s reflection encouraged you, there are many more thoughtful reflections in my book, “Thoughts on Life”, now available.
Before you go, I’d genuinely love to hear your thoughts. Please leave a comment below. Every perspective is valuable, and your insights often help me see things in a completely different way. If you’re not comfortable commenting publicly, feel free to reach out to me through any medium. I’d love to hear from you.
