There is something deeply personal about a dream. It is not just a thought or a fleeting moment of what could be; it is a quiet knowing, a pull, a whisper that says, there is more for you out there.
But how do we ensure we never give up on our dreams? That question has sat with me more times than I can count. Because life has a way of interrupting dreams. Responsibilities show up. Doubt creeps in. Time passes. And before we realize it, we are no longer walking toward our dreams; we are simply moving, existing, going with the flow. And sometimes, if we are honest, we begin to meander.
So the question becomes: Is that enough? For me, it isn’t. I don’t believe dreams are meant to be passive. They are not things we stumble into accidentally while drifting through life. Dreams require intention. They require commitment. And yes, they require work, sometimes quiet, unseen, consistent work. But here is the truth I have come to understand: You don’t “arrive” at your dreams in one moment. You grow into them. There is a myth that if something is truly meant for you, it will just happen. That somehow the path will unfold effortlessly. I have not found that to be entirely true. While there may be moments of grace, and I believe there are, there is also a responsibility on our part to show up.
To show up when we are tired.
To show up when we are unsure.
To show up when the dream feels far away.
Because dreams, in their truest form, demand participation. And what happens if we don’t have dreams? That is a question that unsettles me. Because without dreams, what anchors us? What pulls us forward when life feels heavy or repetitive? What gives meaning to the quiet, ordinary days?
Dreams give direction. They give purpose. They give us something to reach toward beyond our current reality. Without them, we risk becoming comfortable in places we were never meant to stay. But even when we do have dreams, another question emerges: how do we ensure they are fulfilled? I am not certain there is a perfect formula. I don’t think there is a single path that guarantees success. But I do believe there are a few truths that have guided me:
First, you must believe your dream is possible, even when there is no evidence yet. Belief often comes before results. Second, you must be willing to stay with the path, even when it is not exciting. Dreams are not built in moments of inspiration alone; they are built in consistency. Third, you must allow your dream to evolve. Sometimes what we thought we wanted changes as we grow. That is not failure, that is alignment. And finally, you must not abandon yourself in the process. Because achieving a dream at the cost of who you are is not fulfillment. If you ask me how I pursue my dreams, I would say this:
I hold them close, but not too tightly. I work toward them, even when I feel uncertain. I pause when I need to, but I try not to stop completely.
And I remind myself, often, that the journey is just as important, maybe even more important than the destination. Because perhaps the real question is not just how do we achieve our dreams? But rather, who do we become while we are pursuing them?
And maybe, just maybe, that is where the true fulfillment lies.
