Someone said this to me recently. The person said when we have bad times we always comfort ourselves by saying “this too shall pass.” The things is as the person noted when we are having great times we never make that statement. When I sat thinking about it could it be that we never want to jinx our happiness? Is it only in bad times that we really use this statement? Actually it seems to be the default as who says the happy times will also go? Well not regular people I think. Life is ebbs and flows so happiness and sadness do happen.

Ebb and Flow

I have been in some situations that made me just want to walk away and never return. When I got to that stage I remember on more than one occasion saying, this too shall pass. That had to become like a mantra for me to survive. In some instances it was hard and had me ask, “why me father?” I don’t know if you can relate. Sigh. But at the end of the day I always say things must get better. I am always a glass half full type of person. I know that even in “bad times” I have to look at things and times in a positive light or I might spiral down into depression. Never let it be said that I gave up. We just hold on and ride the problems until we turn the corner knowing that this too shall pass. Even though you think the darkness will go on forever we all know that dawn will surly come because daylight must follow the night. I don’t think I’m being overly optimistic. I’m just being me.
