Life itself feels very much the same. We often think in terms of starts and finishes, but really, it is a circle. Birth feels like a beginning, and death feels like an ending, yet both are part of a much larger continuation. Scripture reminds us of this rhythm: “To everything there is a season, and a time to every purpose under the heaven: A time to be born, and a time to die” (Ecclesiastes 3:1–2).
The older I get, the more I recognize that the endings we mourn often hold the seeds of new beginnings. A child’s first day of school is also a parent’s first day of letting go a little more. It’s hard, but it must be done. The loss of a loved one reminds us of the gift of life and the responsibility to live it well. We have to live each day as if it’s our last day on Earth. The circle keeps turning, not as a cold repetition, but as a holy reminder that nothing is wasted, everything continues.
Jesus Himself spoke about this eternal rhythm: “I am the resurrection and the life. The one who believes in me will live, even though they die” (John 11:25). Death is not the final punctuation mark; it is a comma in God’s grand story, a continuation into eternity. Even at “death,” there is life ever lasting.
As we step into this new school year, this new season, I see it as a call to embrace continuity. To honor what has passed, to carry forward the lessons learned, and to trust that each beginning is not isolated but part of a greater flow. May we live with the assurance that life is a circle, and within it, God is always present, in the birth, in the death, and in every continuation in between.

See you next Wednesday at 8:00 p.m., Bogotá time.

Such a profound blog Andrea! I concur with everything said.
What I will add is that I’ve found that some of those same friends you started life with (eg prep/primary school), somehow is in your life again, in the later years. Now, I kept in touch with many; they are my closest friends. But somehow others re-appear:) the circle of life indeed!
Hard to explain but …. Life is indeed a circle and it has a way of closing how it started.
