Someone sent me a message that my writing had blossomed; the person hadn’t seen my writing for some time. I felt good because in my mind it meant growth. And with growth comes evolution. How do we grow in our everyday lives? Do we really want to, or do we shuffle along as we have become accustomed to doing?

It’s easy to settle into the rhythm of what we know. The comfort of routine makes us feel safe, even when we’ve outgrown it. But growth rarely happens in the safety of sameness. Growth stretches us. It pulls us into new spaces where we must confront discomfort, uncertainty, and even fear. Yet, on the other side of that stretch is where we truly blossom.

When I think about blossoming, I imagine a flower that starts in a bud, closed off, tight, waiting. It doesn’t open all at once. It takes time, warmth, nourishment, and the right conditions. We’re much the same. Our lives blossom when we allow ourselves to evolve little by little, embracing new knowledge, new perspectives, and new ways of being.

The truth is, sometimes we don’t recognize our own blossoming until someone else points it out. Like the message I received, we may be too close to our own journey to see how far we’ve come. Sometimes we have to step back to see the whole picture. But that doesn’t mean the growth isn’t happening. Each small shift, each new step, is part of the unfolding. In all the years I have been posting my blogs I know I have grown but I never thought of it in the same manner someone outside really saw it.

So the question for each of us is this: are we allowing ourselves the space to blossom beyond the familiar? Or are we clinging to what is safe and known, even when it no longer serves us?

Maybe today is the day to take one small step outside of the routine. To say yes where we would usually say no. To pause where we would normally rush. To learn something new, or to let go of something old. That’s how the blossoming continues.

Because evolution isn’t about grand gestures, it’s about daily choices. And in those choices, we discover the beauty of who we are becoming. There can be beauty in change.
