I can’t believe it’s the middle of August already. I can still remember celebrating the new year and it seems so recent. Where did all the months in between go? Sometimes it feels as if time is moving at a pace that’s too fast for us to catch up with. One blink, and suddenly a whole season has passed.

The speed of time is something that always fascinates me. We don’t notice it in the day-to-day moments. Each day feels ordinary, maybe even slow at times. But when we look back, it’s as if time has been racing ahead while we weren’t paying attention. The days merge into weeks, the weeks into months, and before we know it, another year is waiting to close.

I’ve come to realize that time isn’t really fast or slow, it’s our awareness of it that changes. When we are younger, days stretch long and summers feel endless. As we grow older, responsibilities, routines, and goals fill our calendars, making time feel compressed. What was once a year that felt expansive, now feels like the brief turning of a page.

But maybe the lesson here isn’t about trying to slow time down, it’s about being present enough to notice it. When we pause to reflect, when we take in the simple joys, when we savor a moment instead of rushing past it, we expand our experience of time. The clock may keep ticking, but our memory becomes fuller, richer, and more grounded.

So, as August slips away and the year marches on, I remind myself to pause. To notice. To reflect. Because time may move quickly, but it doesn’t mean we have to live it in a blur.
