I saw a meme that said something to the effect “you will never regret being nice.” Is it okay to be nice or do nice guys finish last as the old adage says? How is it that some of the vilest people on this earth are the first to cross the line so often? Is it because they are focused on themselves and therefore look out for numero uno? But does it make you not nice if you are focused on yourself and not on others? I ask the question because I have heard this before especially about women. We are expected to focus on others ahead of ourselves. The thing is we really shouldn’t. Think about it when you take care of you first then it’s easier to take care of others. That’s why we always hear on a plane, put on your mask before you take care of others. We should take this throughout our lives. But it’s easier said than done as we have always seen others do it so we think that’s the way it is. Why can’t we change the way things are done? Is it as always said that people are always afraid of change. Is it that they are afraid of the change or is it that it’s the unknown? Is it that they see this void approaching and don’t know what to expect. After all we can’t see around the corner. Or can we?🤔

I remember one day walking through a courtyard and saw this older man just sitting on a bench, I smiled and told him good morning. For me that’s normal my mom always told me to be polite and nice when possible. He stopped me and had this look on his face as if he would cry. He then said, “you just made my day.” Just the fact that you genuinely smiled at me when you said good morning.” I was a little lost as that’s how I roll 😁. But seriously it gave me that glowing feeling. Rewards are not always monetary. Sometimes it does pay to be nice expecting nothing in return.

Can we be nice expecting nothing in return or is just a ploy? Actually I think it’s easy I know so many lovely persons. They are just genuinely nice and it’s flows from them, it’s as if you can see a light around them. That’s the easiest way to describe what I feel. It’s what I see as against some persons that pretend to be nice or some don’t even pretend. Does it make sense to be nice? Well according to my mom that’s the best way to go through life. She was adamant that all persons must be treated well and it didn’t matter their “station” in life. I remember her telling me “ people are people, and it doesn’t matter what area in society they belong.” She said if the man sweeps the street he should not be treated any less. His job is important, especially because if he doesn’t do his job we are in trouble from a sanitary perspective. I didn’t get it right away but I got it and understood what she was imparting. Well I will listen to my mom and she was right, it’s best to be nice. 🙏🏽
