Is altruism real? Some say yes and others no. Can any human really be that selfless? The concept of caring for others above self is the way of some but not others. As I heard someone say one day, the person that claim to be altruistic is not really doing what they do for others but really for themselves. So is it that although the person claims to be doing what they are doing for the benefit of others they are really doing it to make themselves feel good? I’m not sure and that’s why I’m asking the question. What do you think?
They are a number of persons that I could think of that we could say were/are altruistic. But would they consider themselves so? Could it also be that we all have different ideas as to what is really altruistic? I wouldn’t consider myself altruistic as I don’t think I put others and their need above mine. 🤷🏽♀️. Just being real. It’s not because I wouldn’t want to but it’s because I have realized I’m the most important person in my life. If I don’t take care of me who will and I won’t be able to take care of the others in my life. Trust me I am not Mother Theresa. That kind of selflessness is remarkable and you have to be near saint to be able to do what she did.
Is it human nature to be skeptical when we see others that go of their way for others or is it just some persons that behave like that? I ask because I have heard people wonder why would for example a Mother Theresa do what she did. In their mind it’s because she wanted to look good to others but is that really true? Why can’t some of us see the good in others no matter what? Is it because we know what we are and what we would do and therefore project that behavior unto others.
